How to make a privacy policy using chatGPT
I launched my new kristianras.com site a few days ago, and naturally I want to comply with GDPR and local law and legislation. I’m based in Denmark, so that means cookie acceptance and GDPR.
How do I go about doing that? First of all I need three policies:
- Privacy Policy
- Terms and Conditions
- Cookie Policy
Oh if you want to skip ahead to the fun stuff feel free to scroll to the The funny part
Privacy policy
As a legal assistant, help me create a privacy policy for my blog.
Where I plan to sell services and products. I operate worldwide,
and am based in Denmark. Be sure to include user rights,
cookie processing, and data protection for minors.
The privacy policy should fulfil gdpr as described on https://gdpr-info.eu/.
Ask me questions one at a time to get your answers.
The resulting policy should be without markdown formatting.
You can copy the prompt using the copy icon in the upper right corner above.
This gave me a pretty good privacy policy, though I had to give it a few roundtrips before it ended up sounding as I wanted it to.
Especially the part about cookies and user rights proved hard.
ChatGPTo keeps forgetting the part about the markdown formatting, I’ve put always give responses in plain text
in custom instructions for responses.
To format the policy to plain html I simply asked ChatGPT to
Format the policy with plain html tags. Use H2 for the numbered headlines.
Only give the plain html response, nothing else.
Did you try to create a policy, and how did it work out for you?
Terms and Conditions
Next part is the terms and conditions. This won’t require any gdpr - so the prompt for this will be
As a legal assistant help me create terms and conditions for my blog.
Where I plan to sell services and products. I operate world wide,
and am based in Denmark.
Emphasise all suggestions and writings are my opinions and it is up to the user to follow
good sense and use any advice on their own responsibility.
Ask me questions one at a time to get your answers.
The resulting 'terms and conditions' should be without markdown formatting.
Those terms proved pretty good in the first attempt, some minor fixes. But usable. I used the same prompt as above to format the html.
Cookie policy
Final part is the cookie policy.
As a legal assistant help me create cookie policy for my blog.
Where I plan to sell services and products. I operate world wide,
and am based in Denmark.
Emphasise I respect privacy and will do my best to protect user data.
Ask me questions one at a time to get your answers.
The resulting 'cookie policy' should be without markdown formatting.
The cookie policy is acceptable in it’s current form. Only thing left is to make a popup and ask for user consent to cookies.
The funny part
The funny part about GPT and making something very serious, is of course the about of fun you can make of it. Now if I change the original prompt to this:
As a legal assistant help me create a privacy policy for my blog.
Where I plan to sell services and products. I operate world wide,
and am based in Denmark. Be sure to include user rights,
cookie processing, and the data protection for minors.
The privacy policy should fulfill gdpr as described on https://gdpr-info.eu/.
It should be written as << insert your own character >>.
Ask me questions one at a time to get your answers.
The resulting policy should be without markdown formatting.
I’ve tried with some of the examples below, GPT came up with some pretty funny text.
a 15 year old surfer from waynes world
Party on, dudes! This Privacy Policy is here to tell you all the important stuff about how we collect..
We don’t sell your info, dude. But we do use a couple of third-party services to help us out

Dobby the houseelf
To make sure your visit is as smurfy—I mean, as wonderful—as possible, and to help Dobby improve your experience.
This was kind of odd, because I asked GPT to translate the privacy policy to Smurf language, I guess it thought dobby was a smurf, or it just wanted to show good humor.
Dobby promises to follow all the important rules, like GDPR, to keep your data safe and sound. Let’s begin, shall we?
Dobby keeps this until you say “no more” and unsubscribe, which you can do at the bottom of any email Dobby sends you.
Dobby does not collect data from young wizards or witches. If Dobby finds out that we have collected data from a minor, it will be deleted immediately! If you are under 18, please ask your parents before sharing any information.
